A & B American Bulldogs

About Us

Welcome to our site, and to the world of one of the most loyal, protective and expressive companions available today- the American Bulldog.

Our journey in to the world of the American Bulldog began many years ago. In my entire life I never remember NOT having at least one dog in the family. There were various breeds, sizes and mixes, but there was usually always some form of bully breed in the crowd. In the early 90's we were lucky enough to receive a large, mostly white female pup from a friend that was loosely called a "pit bull." Since my mother in law had been onto to us about a grandbaby we decided to name the pup Jessie after her grandmother! Well, Jessie grew to be the largest "pit bull" with the biggest feet that we had ever seen. We always doubted her lineage, and after her death and a bereavement period, we decided to research breeds to try to find a similar breed of dog. Imagine our surprise when we found pictures of American Bulldogs that looked strikingly similar to Jessie. We then started to look for breeders in the area and just happened to stumble onto the father and founder of the breed, Mr. John D. Johnson himself. After a few phone conversations with him and his assurance that a show was a very good place to start, we made plans to attend the 1998 Johnson Fall Classic. We hadn't been at the show for 10 minutes and were sold lock, stock and barrel on getting an American Bulldog. We picked our first pup up from Cedar Creek Kennels in May 2000. We named her Dixie in honor of Dixie Luckman who owns Cedar Creek. Dixie became a good friend and mentor in the breed, and many thanks go to her for answering every conceivable question there was to ask about the dogs and the breed during our early years. Our Dixie became our foundation female and her descendants are still on our yard today. We are currently selectively breeding only one or two litters a year, and are mainly focusing on 100% Johnson lines, with high quality, high percentage Johnson type breedings available from time to time.

We are located about 85 miles due east of Atlanta, GA near Athens (GO DAWGS!!!). We live out in the country on a small farm where we have plenty of room to exercise and work the dogs. On weekends you are likely to find us with the radio blasting a GA game, a Falcons or Braves game, or a NASCAR race, and us in the yards doing kennel work or working the dogs. We welcome visitors to come meet the gang and see everyone in person. If you are new to the breed we suggest you ALWAYS do your research, talk to several breeders and visit their kennels, and go to some shows to see the breed and it's characteristics firsthand. You are most welcome to call, email or visit at any time - we love talking bulldogs! Happy Bulldoggin'!
